Why we don’t do breath play
Choking and breath play are popular fantasies. They’re also the one thing on this list that no amount of care makes safe, so you won’t find them in our games.
The problem
- ·Pressure on the neck can cause unconsciousness in seconds, and brain injury or cardiac arrest soon after — sometimes with no warning.
- ·Damage can be delayed: strokes from neck injuries can happen hours or days later.
- ·Someone running out of oxygen can’t reliably use a safeword.
What people actually want from it — and safer ways to get there
- ·Surrender: wrists pinned above the head, hair held firmly, being held down by the hips.
- ·Intensity: edging and denial, a blindfold plus headphones, being told not to move.
- ·Being possessed: a hand resting flat on the chest or the collarbone, a collar with nothing attached, eye contact on command.
